Pens too Much for Blueshirts

12/1/09

Marian Gaborik is the best offensive player in the Eastern Conference, maybe the league right now. Everyone else on the Rangers; meh.

Mark Staal and Dan Girardi brought it defensively and Sean Avery has gotten his game back as shown in the two games against Pittsburgh, but other than that nobody showed up. Our favorite goalie Henrik wasn't even sharp other than the save he made on Jordan Staal's breakaway.

Watching Rupp's second goal nearly brought me to tears. How on earth can Michael Roszival just let him cruise on in? During the telecast either Rosen or Micheletti mentioned that it might have been miscommunication. I'm not nearly that forgiven because stuff like that has happened far too often this year. It comes from being mentally tough.

Physically, this team is strong. Mentally, not so much. The Rangers broke in the third period on Saturday (though Valli's performance didn't help)and collapsed to surrender an easy goal to Mike Rupp, MIKE RUPP, of all people late on Monday. Heck, Colton Orr could have scored with that much time and space.

There are a couple of positives though still. As bad as New York has been lately, their hot start has gotten them to stay in the playoff race early and they've been a bit snake-bitten. How many posts have they hit, especially Chris Higgins? And how many times can an opposing player score on an empty-netter from his own blue line. It seems like the Rangers have gotten lots of bad bounces that have prevented them from overcoming mental breakdowns.

I think that they can get the ship righted as the players get a better grasp of Tort's system, and they have a tough challenge this weekend playing in Buffalo and at MSG against Detroit.
